THE ROAD - A GUIDED MEDITATION
This is a very interesting meditation that uses metaphors that are intentionally placed within the meditation itself. You as the facilitator are to guide your self or the meditator through this experience with the intention of doing some investigative work in the area of subconscious after the meditation is over. This meditation can be used in a group or a one on one meeting with a client. The meditation is generally very enjoyable and very informative at the same time. It is an excellent method to use for you or the meditator to learn more about themselves and for you to help them do so in a teaching role.
Begin by getting comfortable, Start by taking in a deep relaxing breath. Now as you gently release that breath let any and all tension and tightness simply melt away….As you breathe in and out allow your eyes to gently roll up behind your closed eyelids as if you're looking through an opening in the top of your head ..... Allow the eyes to settle into their normal position with the eyelids closed, and feel yourself relaxing and letting go… as we begin this exercise allow yourself to become aware of all the details of the process… Simply allow yourself to see, hear, and feel all that you are experiencing…
Imagine you are standing on a road… Any type of road will do… This could be a road that is familiar to you or one in your imagination… Either is fine… Notice what type of road it is… Notice what it is made of… Notice the landscape surrounding… Notice where you are in relationship to the road…
See your self turning around and viewing the road behind you…Notice what you are aware of…..
Now turn back around and begin to imagine yourself walking down this road… After a while your attention is drawn to the side of the road and you move over to an object along the side of the road… You notice that it is a cup… Begin to examine the cup… Notice what it is made of… It's condition… It may seem old or new… There may be a particular color or design to it… You can choose to either keep the cup or leave it there as you move along down the road…
As you continue down the road, again your attention is drawn to another object along the side of the road… As you approach it you realize it is a key… As you begin to examine the key you notice the details of the key… Whether it's old or new… It's color… It's shape… Notice if it feels like this is your key or someone else's… you can choose to either take it with you, or to leave it there…..you now move further down the road….
Now continuing down the road you notice a fence along the side of the road… you also notice a house beyond the fence… For now just focus on the fence… We will explore the house later… Notice the fence… Notice how high it is… Notice how long it is… It's style… It's condition… Notice whether the fence seems old or new… notice if you can climb over this fence…
Now focus on the house from a short distance on the other side of this fence… Notice the design and size of the house as you begin to approach it… Notice the condition of the house… Is it old is it new… The color… Notice if anyone lives there… Notice anything else about the house that interests you…
Find a way to enter the house and begin to explore the inside of the house… Notice the feeling as you enter… Notice the rooms… Take your time and explore the inside of this house…
Now step back out of the house and return to the road… as you return to the road notice the fence… Notice if there's anything different about the fence…
You’re now returning to the road… Look ahead on the road and notice what it looks like… notice how far you can see… Notice how you feel continuing down this road…what direction do you go in?
When you are ready, allow yourself to begin to return to this current time and space… Bringing with you everything you experienced… be able to recall it easily… take a deep breath… … Eyes open ...... fully aware… You feel great and are completely refreshed. – Now write your experiences on the work sheet found in the additional handout.
